21A – Reading Reflection No. 2

    1)      What was the general theme or argument of the book?

The general theme of Daniel Kahneman’s book is decision making, and how we can naturally enhance our ability to make decisions more effectively and efficiently. Mr. Kahneman went in-depth to discuss systems we should utilized to check our processes for best outcomes.

    2)      How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?

For me, this book enhanced what I learned in ENT 3003 by giving me another way of thinking and being more apparent in my day to day processing and outlooks. Prior to ENT 3003, I was not as introspective or critical in my thoughts. This was also true of ‘Thinking, Fast and Slow’. Now that I have completed the book, I am analyzing every aspect of making decision to see what system I should be using.

     3)      If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?

One exercise I would suggest, would be to think of a past scenario you faced interacting with others. The scenario could be one that had a good ending, or it did not.  Can be related to family or business. After writing down the interaction, utilize Kahneman’s process theories, System 1 and 2. Write down alternate ending for both based on actual outcome.

    4)      What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?

The ‘aha’ moment for me was better understanding my spouse. We have differing approaches when it comes to taking on projects. I now understand she utilizes WYSIATI and System 1 in most instances which leads to her flawed judgment. System 1 occurs mostly from overconfidence, which she exudes. While being overconfident, her outcome percentages of success are lower than she would prefer.  I now understand where her thought process derives from and can better direct her on increasing her efficiencies in her project outcomes.

  1. Hello, I think you did a really good job on this assignment. This was not the book that I chose to use, however, it seemed like a really good one. For me, good decision making skills is a very important skill to have. When it comes to making a decision it can either make or break you, so learning to make good decisions can be very beneficial for someone.
